Notes Client 6.0.1 Windows 98

I'm new to Notes, running a stand alone Notes client 6.0.1, and am having trouble sending emails with a file attachment. The replication fails, ending up as a pending item in the mail router mailbox with the explanation that it was unable to replicate in a reasonable amount of time.

Repeated attempts to send (replicate) also fail, as do any email sends (with or without attachments) sent after the initial failed message. Only when any messages with attachments are manually deleted from the mail router mailbox will the remaining messages replicate and are sent.

The fault seems to be the fact that a file attachment takes a litle time to upload during replication, and Notes is intollerant of the time required. Is there a setting for this somewhere? This seems a little bizarre.

Emails going out without file attachments go pretty quickly, so time is not an issue, and they go ok. Any message with an attachment appears to take too long, and fails.

Any and all ideas would be appreciated. Thanks much,
Buster
